Skmmr
About Skmmr
Skmmr is a light-weight new feed that is perfect for skimming. There are a couple of killer features, including a powerful news search engine that searches more than 30,000 global websites and blogs and the ability for users to build a custom feed using 130+ trusted news sources from around the world.
The app is internationalized, great on a mobile device or desktop, and requires no registration. In addition, there are no ads and we don’t track users. skmmr started as a solution to the question: Can we combine news from trusted sources with the ease of a social media feed?
The app originally only used Reuters as its news source, but, through user feedback, brought in more than 130 of the top news sources in the world (including, The New York Times, CNN, The Huffington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and more).
What problems does Skmmr solve?
Reading news on a typical news website is an assault on a user’s data plan and the senses. Ads, logins, autoplay videos, and more make the experience frustrating and miserable. skmmr combines many of the world’s largest news sources in an easy-to-skim user interface with no ads, no tracking, and no logins.
For whom your Product/ Service is for?
General audience. Gen Y and Gen Z. People who want to get their news from trusted sources in a social feed format.
What makes you stand out from the crowd?
- No tracking.
- No ads.
- A great user experience.
- Fast loading app.
- Nothing to download or update.
Any Achievements or Milestones accomplished?
- We released version 2 of the app in August 2018. The new version has a cleaner design, SSL, news search, and Build-A-Feed feature.
What are your future plans?
There are some settings we’d like to implement, such as dark mode. Other than that, the core parts of the app are in place.
